Welcome to the land of Illinois parrot rescue a Haven, dedicated to rehabilitation and rehoming of our feathered friends! We strive to provide a sanctuary for parrots who need a new lease on life. From nurturing, injured birds, back to health facilitating adoptions into a loving homes our mission is to give these beautiful creatures to care and attention. They deserve join us in our efforts to protect and preserve all parrots within Illinois.  

Our home has always been a safe place for rescued animals pets with quirks, history, and a whole lot of heart. So when we met a parrot in need, we were curious but cautious. We knew parrots weren’t just pets; they were lifelong companions.

At a local bird sanctuary, we met Rocky, an African Grey with bright, intelligent eyes. We told ourselves we were “just looking,” but she stayed with us long after we left. After many family discussions about care, diet, and commitment, we knew the answer was yes. Rocky had come from neglect, and we wanted to give her the life she deserved.

Bringing Rocky home was both exciting and challenging. She was cautious at first, testing boundaries and learning to trust. Parrots feel deeply, and Rocky carried anxiety from her past, including feather plucking. With patience, enrichment, routine, and love, she slowly began to relax. Her personality emerged curious, intelligent, and full of quiet affection.

Learning to live with a parrot meant adapting our home and ourselves. We parrot-proofed everything, learned her body language, changed her diet to healthier foods, and discovered how much mental stimulation she needed. Over time, Rocky began seeking us out, perching close, and interacting on her own terms. Being accepted into her “flock” was a powerful moment.

Rocky taught us empathy without words. She mirrored the energy of our home calm when things were peaceful, uneasy when life was hectic. We learned when to give space, when to sit quietly, and when reassurance was needed. That unspoken understanding became the strongest bond we’ve ever shared with an animal.

We thought we rescued Rocky, but in many ways, she rescued us too. She changed how we see animals, communication, and responsibility. Her impact reached beyond our home, inspiring others to understand parrots and consider rescue.

Rocky will always be a part of our family and our hearts. She reminded us that patience and empathy can bridge any gap even between species.

All visits are scheduled by appointment to ensure the safety and comfort of our parrots.

We conduct home visits to help ensure each bird is placed in a safe, suitable forever home. Depending on distance and mileage, a travel fee may apply due to rising fuel costs.

Thank you for understanding that these steps are in place to protect our birds and set everyone up for success.
